Kathleen (Bragg) Murphy was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada and grew up in the quaint and picturesque village of Quidi Vidi. Having grown up in the village, she was inspired by the landscapes and the ocean that she could literally see from her doorstep.

Kathleen is essentially a self-taught artist and continues to explore professional ways to enhance her skills. She takes advantage of coaching sessions from provincial, national, and international artists and spent memorable painting vacations in the United States and France. Her visits to Maine in autumn and to The Louvre art museum and the Musée d’Orsay in Paris further piqued her interest to paint.

As a visual artist for over 20 years, she enjoys painting a variety of subjects in watercolor and mixed media and, most frequently, paints in acrylic medium. Whether she’s creating a landscape, seascape, or generating memories of her past on canvas, she observes painting as her form of meditation.

Among the highlights of Kathleen’s painting career was one of her first paintings, “Is He Here Yet?,” having been featured on the cover of The Newfoundland Herald’s December 2002 publication. “Is He Here Yet?” was also among some of her other paintings which had been selected for use as commercial Christmas cards; others were “Just One More” and “Winter Cascade, Bowring Park.

Kathleen is a member of the Botanical Art Society of Newfoundland and Labrador (BASNL) and is a member of the Art Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (AANL). Her artwork has been showcased through many of the AANL’s group exhibitions as well as in private viewings. Kathleen is looking forward to exhibiting with the BASNL in the near future.
